[C38] repair or replace jibsheet footblocks?

Hello Don,

I'm not sure I'm understanding your problem with the sheaves. I rebuilt my
mainsheet blocks by drilling out the stainless rivets and replacing the
sheaves with Harkin sheaves I ordered through West Marine via the Harkin
catalog. I don't know if your jib sheet blocks are similar.

Instead of replacing the original rivets that held the bushings and sheaves
I just used a 1/4" stainless bolt and a nylock nut to secure the sheaves.
Since the new sheaves have a center race, there is no need for perfection
on the bolt surface.

I can now dismantle the blocks to clean, lubricate or replace the roller
sheaves. There is no comparison to the effort on the sheets using the new
roller sheaves. When Schaefer made our blocks, using bushings was the norm
but today there are many companies using roller sheaves and some companies
like Harken make the new sheaves available as rebuild replacements.

Good luck,
Tom Troncalli
