[C38] Advice on Rudder

When I dropped the rudder 10 years ago to replace the prop shaft, I
installed mylar shims in the upper part of the rudder shaft tube. By
removing the remnant of the tiller attachment, I could slip them down
between the stainless rudder shaft and the fiberglass tube. I noticed that
they had fallen out onto the radial steering drive when I replaced my
steering cables a couple of weeks ago. How does one keep them in place
between the rudder shaft and the rudder shaft tube?

Larry, Joe's comment sparked a memory. When our boat was out in Feb. we
did the cutlass, shaft etc dance too but we also had to replace the rudder
cap as it was split in two, I seem to remember them saying they added some
new shims in the rudder housing as the old ones were worn. BTW great job
on the race.

Larry,
Congratulations on your race finish. I do not think our rudder has
bearings. Check with the factory. Joe Launie, Macavity, Commodore
