Charles,

Thanks for clearing up a mystery. Thanks also for being our gatekeeper even
if it does slow things up while you are cruising or inundated with work. I
am sure that some of the Listserve members still have slower internet
connections. BTW I am happy to hear that your Great Lakes cruise went well.
Please give us some details of your trip if you can provide us with a link
that those with faster connections can go to.

All,
As Joe remarked, gatekeeping does slow some of our conversations as I
actively filter for spam and messages that may contain malicious
attachments. So far, we have been quite lucky as I have been able to
stop virtually all attempts to use our listserve as a conduit. In Joe's
case, his message was "held" because it was sent by Gillian Launie who
was not recognized as a member of our listserve. I cleared the message
as soon as I saw the message was from Joe, but this does take time! I
presume Gillian is probably both a family member and crew, which brings
me to the point I would like to make.
If you know of crew, family or anyone who has an interest in our
conversations, please let them know they are welcome to join our little
group! Send them to our website ( www.catalina38.org ) where they can
subscribe. The more the merrier!

>> Joe I just came the East coast rendezvous (more about that later) but
there were speakers from Harken how to service a winch Lemar and Shelden.
They all recommended the same things. To clean everyday items like cam
cleats, roller furlers, Travelers etc. Joy dish washing detergent it will
cut grease and grime and leave a slippery coating after being washed off.
One major source of parts pollution is aircraft exhaust. Those black streaks
on your washed hull. Just squirt the joy in the openings move around and
rinse well. To clean disassembled winches WD-40 cuts grease very well and
displaces water but it is not a lubricant. Joy may work here as well in a
bucket then rinse dry and followed by WD-40 let dry and apply grease as
directed. I just downloaded the winch directions from the Lewmar site.

There was some talk of complaints about the $140 price tag, I am not sure
where these folks live but two dinners, two FULL breakfasts, open bar both
nights, Cocktail open boat party (new 375) and ton of prizes including two
one week vacations in Frank Butlers oceanfront house in Mexico seems like a
great deal. I would encourage everyone to show up next year if you can I
don't think you will disappointed.
