Reviving an earlier subject, I thought I would pass on two things I just learned about sealing the chainplates at the deck. Peregrine is currently in the boat yard getting some new electronics and I decided to have them attack the one leaking chain plate. last summer I sealed all the chain plates and all but one is still sealing. Of course the leaking occured after I had finished my interior varnish project making it a little bigger job to clean up the stain on the starboard bulkhead from the water leakage. The yard told me that there needs to be 1/8" of clearance on all sides of the chain plate, (sealant manufacturer recommendation) this particular one had maybe a 1/16, the 4200 should have sealed, but since that is what I used they are going to use 5200 and are confident that it will stick to the stainless and with the added gap solve the problem.
