[C38] Winches (alden)

Steve, I have replace every Winch on my boat with Anderson Winches
except for the 3 speed primarys. The ones I have in the back are
Anderson 40s . I use them for the spinnaker and also as primarys when I
am by myself. Intersting I have found they have more power and grip than
the big 3 speed lewmars up front. Infact the crew likes to use them over
the big 3 speeds with the head sail. They fit great and are easy to
install and service. If you want me to send some pics just email me.

What size is everyone using for spinnaker sheets? I have two 48s,
needing the second set aft for the sheets. Lewmar recommends 44 but
they are 7 inches and wont fit. Thanks

I am using a pair of Barient 22's that were left over from a cancelled
home-buld project (another story) The bases are exactly the same width
as the cockpit combing at the end of the aft cubby holes, an easy fit
and easy access to the mounting bolts. They work quite well and don't
seem to be over-worked by the spinnaker sheets. We have also used them
as secondaries for headsail changes.

Steve,
We use our primaries which are 52s. We run the spin sheet across the

cockpit to the high side with a grinder there and the sheet trimmer
forward on the deck where she can see something. Joe Launie, macavity

The original spinnaker sheet winches were Lewmar 30, but some C38
owner's
have upgraded with 40's, which don?t fit as well as the 30's....Hope
this
helps!

Yup, that's what we have 30's two speed n they work just fine. Changed
primary's to 48's self tailing couple years ago.
