[C38] Mooring help, please

Hi, everyone,

On the subject of docking and manuevering, I have my own tales of woe,
and am probably the emminent member of "if you can walk away it was a
good approach" club.

My biggest problem is picking up the buoy. Nancy doesn't want to
drive. She also has little physical strength, and the boats are
relatively close in our mooring field (fore and aft moorings with only
about 1 boat width between moorings.)

The pin is spliced to the mudline at about 10' from the bow end (normal
wind). I motor up to the pin and she picks it up, and then I put the
boat in neutral. We stop in about 20'. The mooring ball is still about
10-15 feet away depending on tide and wind. Now she cannot pull the
boat up to the mooring, and I cannot reengage the engine without either
overshooting the mooring or turning over it (propwalk). There has to be
a better way. Suggestions anyone?

Regards,
Les H
