Larry I don't know if you got my last reply on charts but NOAA charts are for US waters and are in fathoms and feet. British Admiralty charts are for Canadian waters and are in meters. All readings are metric.
When I was living and sailing in New Zealand it took me a while to interpert the meter depths and metric measurements. I had to learn fast especially when doing night time navigation on coastal racing. Thank God for calculators! The good thing about all this I can still convert back and forth from meters and fathoms, metric and feet pretty fast on paper even though gps takes all the hassle out of it. The "old days are gone" but it was fun and good mind exercises.

    Regards,
       Ken Sutto "Sundancer"
