We have a backstay mount, the only problem we have encountered was when we
had to pull the hydraulic backstay pump off for rebuild, it was a pain then.
Ours has a pole that goes up the backstay, leveler etc.  We can see other
boats up to 25 nm's and perhaps further with it.
