Rudders; when we found the pitting on the rudder shaft at the place where it
goes into the glass I called Catalina Yachts and was quoted a price of about
$2200.00 for a new rudder. The rudder would have to be made in FL and
shipped at an additional cost to us out here. I conferred with the yard
manager who told me he though that he could get one made here for around
$1800.00. As it turned out the cost for the rudder was about the same but
made locally so no shipping fees. I got a blueprint of the rudder and it
turns out it's more elliptical than the standard rudder, more like a Cal 40
rudder. We went with the local manufacturer Finco Fabrication 714-973-2878.
I talked to Finco and they told me that they believed the rudder would be
more efficient especially in downwind runs. I notice on the drawing that
pulling the prop is going to be easier and probably the cutlass bearing as
well.

I would like to get some feedback on the new rudders everyone has installed.
I would like to know what the price is for the standard rudder and the new
style. Also with the new style is there a huge performance difference. And
