[C38] sigent padel wheel, heater connections (Alden Andre)

I would like to see pics of the heater connections and parts list. I got
so frustrated at access that I cut out the whole Lazzerett floor but
have thought about a way to do a quick disconnect on the heater and
would like to see the fix. I have also moved my water muffler for better
access and have had the steering stiffend with removable braces. Now on
the person who needs a paddle wheel for a signet I have a Knotmeter and
paddle wheel just give me a call and I will send it to you(Free) . I
removed and installed a ST60 package with a C-80 and 3 tridatas one
mounted in the cabin and two on the cockpit bulkheads.

Charles, my hot water tank is also just aft of the engine. I put an
isolating valve on the supply to the tank and one on the outlet. I also
installed flex connectors from the valves to the tank for quick removal
in case of an emergency and one needs to get to the steering cables. I
would like to know what type of protective lubrication was used on the
cable.

Some time ago I saw some correspondence on the listserve about
feathering propellers - right now I have a folding prop which I would
like to pension off. I would appreciate any thoughts any
recommendations people have. I talked to one supplier, who told me that
before recommending anything he needs to know a) the engine model
number, b) the transmission ratio, and c) the shaft diameter. My boat
is a 1982 with a 25 hp Universal which I think is the original. Since I
am about 4 ? hours away from my boat right now (which is in Mackinaw
City MI) I would appreciate any information.

Max,
My bolts were most assuredly stainless! I had to cut that stripped bolt

out, which required four, separate cuts due to the spacer nuts that are
on the bolt that support the steering gear. This was by far the worst
maintenance experience I have had on the Mighty Quinn. Waaay back
before I was a professor, I was a "journeyman" tool and die machinist,
so I do know my metals! So here is my take regarding why Edson used
stainless bolts (strength being the major argument of course).

Stainless and aluminum are affected by galvanic corrosion (much worse in

saltwater environments). That corrosion will be governed by the ratio
of the anode area (aluminum) to the cathode area (stainless). Given the

size of the bolts and the relatively small contact area... I would
suggest their engineers figured the amount of corrosion would be within
some spec. Especially if there is some sort of insulator applied
between the metals (paint being a poor one, but I noticed the aluminum
binnacle tapered hole was painted). Remember that our masts are
aluminum and there is a lot of stainless attached to them as well.
Replacing stainless bolts with aluminum also requires some
consideration. For example you would need a 3/8 aluminum bolt to match
the sheer strength of a 1/4 inch stainless bolt (it has to be even
larger for bearing loads).

Hope this helps,
Charles Finn
