[C38] Life-lines

Patrick,
The major threat to stainless is corrosion in an oxygen deprived 
environment.  Given this, it is hard to understand why Catalina 
routinely went with coated lifelines....   If I were you I would go for 
the larger un-coated wire for the above reason AND the fact no marine 
surveyor will certify your boat to an insurance company without 
lifelines within spec.
As to lifelines saving your butt, I am still hurting from a bad scrape 
to my right shin and knee obtained when I was moving (quickly) from the 
helm to the bow in order to catch a mooring.  As I went on deck around 
the dodger, my foot slipped over the rail and my trip over the side was 
painfully stopped by being jammed in the lifelines...  Better a bad 
bruise than having the boat sail away without me!
