Suzanne: Fix that water pump ASAP. I am the only guy I know who has blown a freeze plug in the Carribean. My pump was leaking as well, and I came close to loosing the engine because of this. Thank the Lord. I starteds the engine when I got up as usual was brushing my teeth, looked at the companionway, saw the teak floor full of oil. The leak ran down the front of the alluminum front piece on to the freeze plug which corroded it and it failed dumping the oil out of the engine. I replaced the water pump( Itallian type name which I have forgotton) with a Sherwood pump which has a higher flow rate. Do it ASAP.

  Suzanne
The bow lights were mounted two ways. One way was on the pushpit as one light assembly. This was on the later boats. Then the earlier boats had light assemblies mounted in the hull on both the left and right sides. Those light assemblies were made by Sea Dog and are still available. Even just the lenses are available. Now that you know the name it shouldn't be difficult getting them on line.

  Dear Colleagues,

My C 38 is showing wear and replacements seem impossible to get. As discussed may time, the raw water pump (Universal 5424) is still the original and it is so worn it leaks. No ones seems to know how to replace it - suggestions.

The stuffing box needs replacement again not available in Australia. The centre window on the starboard side was broken and replaced with plastic that can not be made to meet the 1/4" camber - even fitting new molding seems difficult.

I have fixed the heat exchanger issue by using a Volvo oil cooler with amazing results (sits at 83C regardless of RPMs). Have talked with the people in Florida to no result. The shift from LA appear to be without their parts.

So I need advise. I need to replace the old raw water pump. the stuffing box, port and starboard bow lights, and refit new sinks in the existing bench tops (head and galley). Are there suppliers I connect with?

  Cheers,
  Suzanne
