Larry,

As a friend of Steve's, I think team HASSLE is very appropriately named.

Also a question for

Chuck,

How much propane storage capacity do you have, where is it located, and how
long does a 10lb tank last with the Dickinson?

Leave it to Alden to notice the missing mast and me the "racing/sailing
fluid" LOL

BTW Steve Smolenski, take note of the "sailing fluid" you and your crew will
need ton's/gallons of this for the Trans Pac. I found the more we drink the
faster we go so I suggest each of your crew members and you drink at least a
gallon of "fluid" before the start on July 4th 2011. Just some friendly
advice here. It'll make you go real fast.

Best regards,

Thanks for the photos. I just purchased a force 10 CNG heater since my boat
is CNG and it was brand new in the box for 100.00(it was pure luck I found
it and being cng since they don't make cng anymore). I have been pondering a
heat system for quite some time. I have a espar dl4 on my 30 I could remove
and put on the 38 but I have found I don't really care for it. It is noisy
and drains the batteries. I think I will supplement the force 10 cozy cabin
heater with a red dot heater off of the engine mounted low on the quarter
birth facing forward. So my next question.
Has any one installed a red dot heater ? Oh by the way in the pic with the
stove why is the mast missing?

Check the solenoid that powers the glow plugs. If the preheat current is
not sufficient, the engine doesn't get warm enough for the prestart.
Also check the connections to that whole circuit. I don't know why bleeding
it would help. But maybe someone else has some other experience. If
bleeding always helped, then I would be suspicious of a bad fuel line or a
poor seal on one of the filters, letting air into the fuel system.

Les H

Check your fuel supply for water. Had the same problem after swiftsure tore
entire fuel system apart checking fuel pump and filters, bleed the lines
etc. Look at the bowls on your fuel separators there should be
very little water in them.

Below is a picture of my heater on the Mighty Quinn (the two guys in the

picture were part of my crew doing what we do best)!

This is the Dickenson Newport propane heater. I like it because
installation is easy compared to the diesel types and it really does heat
the cabin. It does not draw combustion air from the cabin, which
means I never have to worry about carbon monoxide or propane gasses.
I had one of their fireplaces on a previous boat that could burn wood or

coal, but the propane version is so much easier to use and keep clean.
Probably the best part is you can get right up next to it to warm up (just
like a stove). Besides, my wife says they are pretty and really do dry out
the cabin.
