I guess I will chip in. Flybye has 2 main halyards, 2 jib halyards, 2
spinnaker halyards and one pole halyard. All rope no wire rope combo.
Everything is in the mast except for spin halyards and pole halyard.

Yeah, that is what I was concerned about as well.  The Serendipity 43 I
crew on has everything running inside the mast and it's a very clean
installation.  The boat is an early 80's IOR racer and was very well put
together when new.  Sometimes I wonder if it might make more sense on
our stock boats to have a single jib halyard and 2 spinnaker halyards
and use the 2nd spin halyard to peel the jib when needed.  But I'm not
sure if the hoist angle would be OK.  Anyone out there doing that?  I
personally like having the greater flexibility in preparing for spin
sets as the jib is usually not changed during the short races here in
SD.

I am running the second halyard outside the mast I still need to secure
the halyard to the mast somewhere around the first spreader or so to
keep the tail and halyard separate but other than that it works pretty
well.

The combination of photo and link showed exactly what we are facing.  I
think we'll wait until the mast is down to replace the sheaves given the
low probability of halyard damage.  Your masthead looks like its right
out of the box!  Nice work!  Maybe in a few years our sister ship will
look as good.  I think I noticed 2 spinnaker halyards, yes?  If so, did
you run the 2nd halyard down the inside of the mast or outside?

Here are a few photos of my mast when it was down and being worked on
and then back up.  In the one you can see the painted mast with the
cover plates removed and in the other with the plate in place.  this
should help with giving some perspective to what Tom talked about trying
to do it from the top of the mast.   Our masts were manufactured by
lefeill http://www.lefiell.com/2marine_main.html  This link goes to the
mast and mast head page, I believe our mast is p/n OM4C with a cut
length of 55'  Im sure they could probably give you a schematic of the
proper mast head so that you could get another perspective of how the
sheaves and pins fit together inside.

First, thanks for your help with the salon shelf storage options.  First
mate Dorothy is very happy with the lined baskets on the top shelves and
the extra rail on the bottom. 

Now for the next question trying to save a trip up the mast.  Can anyone
tell me if sheeve box needs to be removed from the masthead to replace
the sheeves?  Or is there a pin that goes all the way through the mast.
Ours is a 1985 model. 

I'm going to 7/16" Sta-Set X halyards and want to remove the combination
sheeves as I'm concerned about the semi-circle indent on the current
version.  7/16" line seems to run smoothly, but I'm not sure about wear.
New sheeves should be cheap insurance.

Hi there,

Have anyone installed a mast gate on the track  instead of the small
square
aluminum block and bolt???

I want to get rid of this in order to take the slides on the track as
down
as possible to the goosenek area and  lower the stack height.  I'm going
to
start the sail-pack mainsail cover project, and I'll save a few inches
on
the cover by doing this, so It won't work as the "fourth reef", as some
have
stated!!

Catalina direct has some for other catalinas, but of course, not for the
38...

I think you would run into problems with angles and loads on the jib
sheave if you flew a spinnaker from it,   The bail and block design
allows the spinnaker head to move around some on the spinnaker as the
jib halyard is designed for hoisting and holding.
