Jay,
     I used an old Avon with floor boards and a small outboard for 
years. In the 1970's  everyone had these - they were so stable they were 
called the drinking man's dinghy. Mishaps did occur. One night during a 
yacht club cruise we had eight or ten dinghys tied along side a forty 
footer. Two parties got in their dinghys at the same time. Not good when 
the first dinghy's outboard prop rolled up the second dinghy's bow line 
causing it to stand on its transom dropping its crew off the stern.
     When we used a spin pole we had 2 to one on our pole lift. Since 
this led to a winch it was perfect for hauling the dinghy up on the
