[C38] Gross Tonnage

But! The seemingly standard calculation for Gross Tonnage is:

_(Length x Beam x Depth) x .5_
              100

Depth is the slippery one. It could be from the deck to the tip of the
keel OR it can be minus the keel. USCG says we should include the
keel if there is no clear demarcation (there is not on our boats).

If you leave the keel in with a depth of 10 feet, the gross tonnage is 23.
In order to obtain 13 tons, the depth would have to be about 5.7 feet.

I am going to go with 13 tons on the forms, but what a farce! I really
don't plan on filling my boat to the rails with wine anytime soon, which
apparently is where this silly number came from (although now that I
think about it....) lol!
