Sorry to hear about the destructive removal, I think there are a few variations on the packing glands used on our boats. Mine takes 3/8

Well it took a Harbor Freight angle grinder to do it, but the rudder is
dropped! (and my quadrant is now scrap metal.)
Good think too. There was an opening in the top of the rudder that had
been there long enough for a slipper shell to grow inside. Big rudder
re-do in the works!
New shaft packing too when it goes back in. Anyone know the correct size?
