Thanks Tom! That is exactly what I'm talking about. Nice job.

I added a portlight to the quarter berth but since the screen is screwed
in you can't use it to pass things through from the cockpit.

This portlight in the cockpit allows ventilation even in rainy weather.

Thanks for the photo Steve. Yes, I have an identical access
panel next to the berth and it IS great! I got the impression that some
people were suggesting cutting out the floor of the shallow locker under
the starboard cockpit settee for access to the cabin. That threw me
off. I have considered putting in a port to allow ventilation and to
throw sheets and halyards down to minimize the clutter in the cockpit
during races. Has anyone done this mod?

Really? Is that correct? I always thought the locker cutout
was the
"T" shaped cut out on the inner side of the port sail locker to
gain
access to the engine, steering assembly, etc. My understanding
is that
it was a stock cut on later boats and an owner modification of
earlier
boats. Cutting the locker floor above the bunk seems a bit
dodgy from
an aesthetic viewpoint, but if form follows function then it
does allow
access to the pilot berth area.

	Thanks!.............Jay

I have read in a few list serve post that a new shaft can be
installed
wi thout dropping the rudder. Any tips on how to make it easier?
Putting
one in next week. Also I think I get the dumb award. When I
asked about
cutting out the locker floor, I finally figured out it is the
other
	starboard side over the bunk.
	Duh!
