[C38] Deep keel - 6'9"

Marci,

The Cat-38 was designed to have the 6'9" keel. So most of the boats have the deeper keel. The shoal draft version is definitely a compromise of performance to deal with 'thin' water. Here on SF Bay, we get to play in the mud on occasion if we are not careful. The average depth of The Bay is about 12 ft so there are plenty of places to not go.

I’m guessing that those of you on the west coast don’t have any issues with shallows. On the east coast however, it seems like my eyes are glued to the charts (instead of the water) too much of the time. While I love the way Checksy handles, her 6’9” draft makes it hard to relax! What percentage of the C38s were produced this way?  How many of you have the deep keel, and do you like them?   Marci J. BrownCheck’s In The Mail
