[C38] Hurricane

As it looks now, Hurricane Isaac will become a Cat 1 hurricane Sunday evening as it crosses the Florida Keys.

The hurricane will then proceed north off the west coast of Florida where it will gather strength to a Cat 2 hurricane Tuesday before it make landfall somewhere between Panama City and Pensacola Florida, both boating communities with several marinas each.

One worry was in the Tampa area where there are multiple marinas and low areas which would be flooded by a storm surge. Tampa is very vulnerable to hurricanes and surge and the Republican Convention is setting up there for next week in Tampa. It looks now like Bradenton, St. Petersburg and Tampa will just get rain and wind but no hurricane.

I kept my Catalina 38 in Tampa Bay for 17 years so I am quite used to watching and worrying about the weather down there. In 2004-2005 we called the hurricane season the "Hurricane of the Month Club." I don't miss that aspect of Florida. One of my kids moved from the West Palm Beach area to St. Paul, MN. when her husband got transferred. She says they prefer blizzards to hurricanes and I totally understand although it sure would make a sailing trip to the Bahamas a lot more ambitious from St. Paul.

Hey Joe, everything ok here!! The hurricane is affecting the northern part of the Caribbean. Here in Central America we are enjoying a blue sky, despite that we are getting into the worst three months of the rainy season. Hoping that no hurricane will come this way during this hurricane season.

Hi Brett, you are totally right. They do cross inside the pedestal, otherwise the rudder will move to the opposite way.
There is no diagram on the site about the cables, but you might be able to find one at www.edsonmarine.com

Hope this helps!

Does anyone have a diagram of our steering cables? Do the cables cross in the pedestal?
