[C38] Second bilge pump

While we are talking about bilge pumps, I want to add my two cents.

We were on a week long cruise in the Gulf of Mexico some years back and our shaft bellows failed and we started taking on water, not enough to be a problem, just enough to be a nuisance.

I had two bilge pumps in my bilge but they were fore and aft.  We were on a 200 mile starboard tack and the centerline pumps wouldn't pump the water that collected on the port side and it flooded our battery area and storage under the outboard table seat soaking some of our provisions.

I made an emergency bracket to hold one of the pumps farther to port and it remedied the problem. Afterwards, I mounted the two pumps port and starboard just in case we ever needed to drain the bilge on a long tack again. 

Even side by side the leeward pump will not completely empty the bilge but it sure helps Vs. a centerline pump.

Steve, you will now have four if you unscrew the cap to your very very cool new head sump!   I have 2 shower sumps in enclosed boxes on my boat.  
If I should start taking on water I can unscrew the tops and then have 2 additional dewatering pumps.

I have three bilge pumps, one electric exits  at transom, two manual both exit aft, the sump tank is only for head sink and head  shower sump and exits at head discharge, that way when showering or using the sink and it fills you open the valve turn on the switch and your done all from inside the head.

I understand the value of a second bilge pump but wonder why not mount it in the bilge with water coming out transom above water line?
