There are plenty of us self learners, too. You can not be a sailor
without the ability to pick things up, including tools ;-)

I am a scattered academic or as Ross Perot put it, A Roads Scolar. or
maybe in the case of sailors a "chart"er scolar?

my total education is probably 14 academic years (RADAR, COM and NAV
schools in the navy, CALIBRATION school at Lowery AFB, ASEE from
University of Guam, BSIT from University of Phoenix, AA from Skagit
valley community college, and the full series of Automatic Test
Equipment training from Schlumberger, Advantest, and Teradyne. Lots of
other classes, too. A friend once told me I should have some kind of
degree in omnipotent studies.

I would like to take some math, but these days lots of the colleges have
them earmarked for the guys on a specific degree course. I always
wanted to get a really good basis in Calculus. I never got it in high
school. Dad was a migrant engineer so to speak, AT&T long lines type.

Education comes in many forms. Read Admiral Hopper's reply to a
question about her education in computers. Think about this, Admiral
Hopper probably would not pass the EIT exam today.

Les H
