[C38] Bob Stay

So basically what you want is an attachment on the bow to tie to your bowsprit/karver roller in order to keep the tension on the halyard? Why not use a pad eye low on the bow below the anchor roller with wire and a turnbuckle up to the bottom of the sprit. If all you're doing in essence is tacking the spinnaker to the roller which is attached to the sprit and then carrying the load to the hull, in order to keep tension on the halyard, you only need to worry about a load somewhere in the 2500-3500 pound range. Seems like a wichard pad eye with two 5/16 bolts and a backing plate will do what you're looking for.

Steve,
We are many thousands of dollars beyond your fix. We have a Seldon adjustable sprit which projects out 42 inches past the head stay. (PHRF hit us 15 seconds fo our new 19 foot J. ) We have a 1/2 oz assy chute made for the 19 foot J which is fast in light air.The Karver furler sits on the end of the Seldon. The karver needs a very tight halyard so pressure upward on the sprit thus the bob stay. Got a drawing from a J-120 from Sailing Anarchy fix-it thread. So here we are. Joe

Have you thought about removing your current bow roller and having what you want added to it? I drew up some plans to add a 13" extension in order to get the tack for the asym out past the bow pulpit, but decided to wait and see if some of the other tweaks I did will solve the issue first. You might be able to add 13" of ¼ stainless reinforced on both sides and then tied to the hull with a wire tie rod. Ill try to send a scan of my drawing in the next few days, (Going in for elbow surgery tomorrow and not sure if ill be to work on Friday or not) but will forward as soon as I can. The Karver can mount to your bow sprit too cant it?

	Hi,
I am going to put a bob stay on Macavity to handle my Kaver top down chute furler. Does anyone know where I can get a bracket built for the bow of the boat? I want it to be v shaped stainless following the shape of the hull with an eye to swage the bob stay to. I would also want backing plates for the inside of the hull. It needs to be strong. The bob stay itself will be 11 mm spectra with a cover rated at 19,000 pounds. SAnta Barbara is a good place for olives but not stainless. Joe
