[C38] Accessing the Auto Pilot

My Autohelm 6000 on my '81 Cat-38 is either dead or dying. I'll have to
replace some or all of it, depending on what still works. What I can't
figure out is how one can access the area that is directly behind the
engine. There is that opening in the lazarette, but I'm not sure a human
could actually get through that space. From the rear bunk, there's just a
rectangular opening that's big enough for an arm attached to a flashlight,
but that's about it. How do all you owners tinker with the steering gear
below the pedestal? Thanks very much in advance!
