[C38] Over heating

Thank you to everyone that gave me their ideas about this problem. 
I think my marine mechanic was asleep at the switch.  His recommendation was to replace the Universal engine.  $15,000.  Engine costs $10K + $5K labor. 
  
Turns out the thermostat was frozen closed, the heat exchanger had a cracked which leaked, and the water heater leaked. 
Total cost of repair was about $750. 
  
She's running fine. 
  
If I'd replaced the engine it would still have lost coolant in the water heater!
