[C38] thank you Chuck

So, the error messages LOOK like there was some error at the listserv provider server that tripped spam errors at some email providers like yahoo and comcast. Not sure what they were up to as I don't get that kind of detail in the error messages.

Thanks,
Anders Finn

We are looking into this and here is what I know so far.

1. EVERYONE who was "bounced" is back on the list! About 30 of our 122 users got the message and I personally went in and reinstated them.
2. We don't know what happened, but at 8:02 am on the 25th I got about 30 messages saying folks were bounced.
3. We use Sitelutions for our listserve (a very large provider). I have contacted them and they are looking into the problem. The problem for us is this happened on a Saturday and only real emergencies are handled on weekends.
4. It seems that most but not all folks who were bounced had Yahoo, ATT, and AOL personal mail accounts. Who knows what that means!
5. I will let folks know what happened as soon as I know, but I can guarantee that it was not us!

In the meantime if this happens again, I will reinstate people when the server notifies me (it does this automatically). I have to wonder if this will happen again because it only happened at 8:02 am and not again and not to everyone!

Hang in there!

Let me add to Phil’s comments and thank Anders and Chuck for all they do. It seems to be forgotten sometimes that they and others like the treasurer are all volunteers and donate their time for the good of the organization.

Larry! Not Fair!
You have been the "poster child" of email problems! We have traded many emails about this and as far as I know... it has ended up as weird attachments and varying providers. I have rebuilt your account on the listserve more times than anyone else!
Regardless, it would be great to here from you and Hassle again!

By the way folks, IF you change email providers (going from a .com to a .net or .org or whatever) you have to let me know as the system will automatically reject your email as an unknown source.

Best,
Chuck

Also my fault. I was trying to clear things often but I really only got to it about once a week.

Subject: [C38] Delays on listserve emails

Folks,
Every once in a while I need to explain to our new members how/why
things work (and don't work) on our listserve and website.
As many of you know, we do our very best to ensure the listserve does
not contain spam, phishing, hacks, and other malware you probably are
all too familiar with. That means I have to look at all large emails
and emails from folks new to the list as this is where the bulk of the
attacks come from. That action does delay new members who honestly want
to communicate.... And the process for clearing these emails requires a
recognized computer that sits on my desk at home. Under extraordinary
circumstances, I can access the servers while not at home, but that is a
real chore that takes a lot of time. I have been traveling for the last
several months, often out of internet contact. When I could get to a
reliable internet connection and had an hour or so to burn... I went in
and cleared the backlog.
And that is why there has been delays of late. We are all volunteers in
this organization and we do our best to keep things running, but these
delays are the price we pay to ensure we don't get hacked.
Welcome to our new members and we look forward to great conversations!
