[C38] swimm ladder

Regardless if you use the standard ladder or another, most use one inch
horizontal rungs will kill your feet and they don't lend themselves to a
safe footing in any case, barefoot or not, dry or wet.

Anyone with a MIG or TIG welder can weld brackets on the rungs to allow
the safe attachment of teak or non-skid synthetic treads parallel to the
water. There used to be a company making teak treads using stainless
hardware but unless their hardware was welded to the horizontal tubes,
they would not safely hold their position in use because they would
twist on the rungs, no matter how tightly they were attached.

I don't know if the aftermarket treads are still on the market but they
were not a good idea unless you either bolted, riveted or welded the
brackets to the ladder rungs.

Regardless, it should not be difficult to make weld brackets using 1"
stainless steel angle to make weld-on brackets to hold the tread steps
securely.

Since there is no universal transom angle for all boats, aftermarket
treads needed to be installed on the boat to get the treads level to the
water but if you make a triangle cardboard pattern to establish a
horizontal guide to your transom, any weld shop should be able to
facilitate welding the mounting brackets to the ladder rungs.

If you do decide to use any ladder made from 1" tube and don't install
rung treads, at least apply white self adhesive non-skid to the rungs to
keep your feet from sliding. This won't help with the painful
concentrated pressure on your feet from the skinny rung tubes but it
will at least keep you from sliding. White non-skid will also lower the
temperature of the rungs on hot sunny days.
