In 0-2 we use an AirX drifter about 100% of J, free luff
2-12 a carbon light air #1 155%
12-20 the number 2 a Kevlar 130-140%
Above 20 the number 3

G'Day All,
We race hull #311 Broad Reach quite a bit in San Diego now. We have an all purpose #1 (155% UK Tape Drive) and a #2 (135% UK Tape Drive) and a drifter that we found to be ineffective in light air.
In light air we use the 155, move the genoa car forward about 1ft, crack off the sheet, ease backstay, ease outhaul, ease Cunningham, and sail "fat". Then we sail much lower than normal just to make some way. We also move all crew to the leeward side for some heel. Anything to get a decent sail shape and make that big boy more efficient. Once boat speed gets above 4 knots, then we point higher and MAY think about sheeting in a bit but don't do anything that stalls that genoa. It is in charge, not me! Sometimes it seems like we are just sailing back and forth, but at least we are moving and we do make headway. We tend to have our best beer can races in light air against the newer and heavier Beneteaus and J-Boats with their fractional rigs!
