[C38] fuel problem

So far that means the pump is working, but at an unknown pressure. The fuel should come from the tank, get sucked through the Racor filter, pumped through the electric fuel pump, pushed through the engine mounted filter, to the injector pump. Open the hard line which goes into the injector pump, turn on the electric fuel pump (without turning the engine over) tto see if fuel is coming out of the hard line. This way you can be sure everything is working before the injector pump.

When I turn the key on the pump works and sends fuel to the filter.Does this mean that the pump filters are OK?

With the electric lift pump you can charge your fuel system all the way to the injector pump. Just loosen the fuel line fitting at the injector pump (on the filter side) and turn on the electric fuel pump without turning the engine over. This way you know there is fuel to the injector pump.

Thanks
Tank's clean. I changed fuel filter.I have a Facet fuel pump and I guess it has a filter.Cleaning tank and changing fuel filter didn't get fuel to cylinders.Patrick

Exactly our situation, cleaning the tank is where to start.

My ship had similar issue. Stalled, wait 10 minutes, started ran for 10 stalled...repeat. replaced all filters and discovered gunk, blackish tar in bottom of fuel tank, got sucked in when low on fuel. Removed tank, filled with a 1" layer of gravel, soap, and warm water. Slosh, rinse, repeat until clean. Reinstall with new fuel...Never had a repeat. Remember these boats are 35 years old and most have never had tank cleaned.

Dont forget there are three fuel filters. One on the engine (spin on filter), an inline filer usually a racor, and then the filter screen inside the Facet cylindrical electrical fuel pump (lift pump). Good luck

100 yards from slip "Blue Eyes" engine sputtered then quit. I started her 3 time and she lasted about 30 second. My mate wisely said,"Is she out of fuel?" Gauge was on "E." Fortunately I had 5 gallons of diesel. This addition hasn't led to her starting. I unscrewed the air bleeds to the cylinder. No fuel. The fuel pump makes noise so I assume she works. I removed the top of the fuel filter.............canister was low. Turning on the accessory switch filled the fuel filter but fuel still doesn't get to the air bleeds at the cylinders.
Any thoughts?
