My fuel problem's solved.
If you run out of diesel you need to:
1. Install fuel
2.turn key 1/4 turn which turns on fuel pump
3. Bleed fuel filter
4. Bleed at internal fuel pump
5. Loosen nuts which hold fuel tubes to engine
6. Turn key to starting for 10 seconds which activates internal pump
7. Tighten nuts
8. Start engine

Patrick

Note: turning key 1/4 only activates the external fuel pump so you will not get the air out of the tunes that go to cylinder

I had this problem 10 + yrs. ago.  The engine would run for a couple hours and shut down for lack of fuel, wait a half hour or so, restart and run for 1/2 hour, etc. and repeat.  After changing everything, over a period of years, plus cleaning the tank in a radiator shop, I found the very simple problem- the 1/4 inch pick up hose laying on the very bottom of the tank had very small copper screen stuck into the hose end and was easily clogged.  I removed the screen and the engine has NEVER failed since.  Let the suction filter do it's job- no screens up stream of the filter.

Patrick: As others have said be aware of the small filter in the Facet fuel pump, it can plug very easily. Depending on how your system is set up it can really hurt. I changed to a Sherwood pump, higher flow, no filter. The facet shaft can also ware easily and cause leaking.

Going to boat now
Plan:
Check fuel tank for sludge
Replace fuel filter
Any other thoughts?

100 yards from slip "Blue Eyes" engine sputtered then quit.  I started her 3 time and she lasted about 30 second. My mate wisely said,"Is she out of fuel?" Gauge was on "E."  Fortunately I had 5 gallons of diesel.  This addition hasn't led to her starting.  I unscrewed the air bleeds to the cylinder.  No fuel.  The fuel pump makes noise so I assume she works.  I removed the top of the fuel filter.............canister was low.  Turning on the accessory switch filled the fuel filter but fuel still doesn't get to the air bleeds at the cylinders.
Any thoughts?
