[C38] corrosion in diesel fuel tank

Skippers:

As we all know it is not possible to keep water out of the fuel tank unless the tank was always topped off. I guess one could hire a barge to follow me while motoring. Impractical.

So when the tank is half full water will condense and end up on the bottom of the tank. Water's denser than diesel. That's probably why we have a fuel separator.

Some water stays in tank and over the years (over 30 for Blue Eyes) corrosion will occur.

Question for group: has anyone used epoxy to seal leaks from the inside? Makes perfect sense to empty tank and pour in polymer. Watch U-Tube video. Polymer cures in 30 minutes.

Less expensive than replacing tank.

I am a doc and have a colonoscope so I have viewed the damage that happens inside the tank.

The outside shows some damage but the real issue is inside.
