[C38] Fuel in bilge

Hi Patrick, I just had that problem for the second time a couple of weeks ago...

Turns out that the tank was corroded to the point that a pinhole was leaking fuel. When I cleaned some of the corrosion, I had a big stream of fuel. Good thing that the tank was already removed from the boat.
Usually a tank corrodes on the bottom, from the inside out, due to the water on the diesel that accumulates on the bottom of the tank, but in my case, it was external corrosion..

Open the wooden board above the tank, and with a flash light (hope you boat has a Diesel engine and not gasoline...), check the corner of the quarter berth, right next to the companionway.. there should be some fuel in there.. if not, check that the tank sender is not leaking when that tank is full, and the boat heels. If no luck, check filling hose, hose leading to water separator, pump, engine, return line and all the clamps..

Hope this helps. It takes a while to remove that diesel smell from the boat, so the sooner you discover the leak, the better..
Regards,
