I have been in an Atlantic Hurricane with 45 ft. seas, and with all the water that comes into the boat, running any chain locker water into the bilge is just plain dangerous!

Tom,

I have never heard of a drain to the bilge from the chain locker! All of the C38 I have seen drain the chain locker out the bow..... Perhaps your drain is plugged? I do know if your chain locker fills with water because the hatch came open in a very bad storm on Lake Erie that water will work its way into the vee birth and make for a very soggy time!

Do you have pictures of your C38 drain?
