My experience with painting Love & Luck was that the hull needed a lot
of work to get it smooth. The guy who did it described it as looking
like a corn cob but the dark blue Awlgrip job looked like a mirror when
all the work was done. Everyone in the yard came by to admire the boat.
If anyone needs work done in Miami, Bob Campbell is the best there is!

The key to a good paint job is the prep work. Prep by sanding and
filling every scratch and nick you can find circle tyhem with a pincil
and fill and sand each one the pincil will sand off. a good primer is
going to fill any small scratches its called a "high build" primer. I
think its best to use the primer made by the company who's paint you
chose to use. I went to an Interlux paint seminar and they roll and tip
using a vertical stroke and not horozontal. The vertical stroke leaves a
better wett edge which is where you need to start your next pass someone
is following with the "correct" roller to flatten the paint. The result
is Interlux Prefection Paint thats the name is beautiful when done this
way. So Sand prime fill prime fill sand until it looks like a new hull
and then paint it it should last for years. Time is important with yard
prices as high as they are so i think you need to plan on a minimum of
seven days unless you have allot of hands ten to let everything cure.
Interlux has a great site at www.yachtpaint.com. I see alot of people
painting with TopLaq and some of the enamels but they will have to do
allot of repairs in a copup[le of years when it starts to peel you don't
need that your yacht like all Catalina 38es are very sexy when they
shine. PREP PREP PREP.
