My pedestal badly needs help also. I talked with an Edson rep at a boat show about 3 years ago and he indicated that Edson would rebuild and refinish the pedestal for about $300. This the route that I plan to go, but keep planning to do it over the winter.
I believe the original finish was powder coated. I think it was also used on the dinette table post in the C38. Some people I have talked with taut the durability of this paint, but it certainly hasn't held up on my boat.

I was thinking of refinishing the steering pedestal on my 1981 while it is removed for repairing the rotted cockpit sole (which is progressing SLOWLY... damn rain!). Originally I was only going to paint it then I thought powder coating might be better. Has anyone done this? If so, how do you like it? How much would it cost? What were the pedestals originally finished with (mine is a 1981 model)? Thanks for the info
Sincerely,
