[C38] winch bases

Hi, Marcie.
There is a device called the wincher, but I don't think it would work for our boats due to the high loads on the sheets. I suspect your best bet is a trip to the local chandlery and see what winches they might have.
Sometimes a good chandlery will keep an eye out for specific items for you, for a price of course.
Also there is occasionally a "rebuilt" winch available from one of the manufacturers where a boat has upgraded. It doesn't hurt to ask. Also check your local boat yards. Believe it or not, there are people who prefer not to have self tailers, and will replace them.
Regards,
Les H

Dear C38 owners,
We have the standard winch, which is not self-tailing. Is there an inexpensive, do-it-yourself kit to convert to self-tailing?

Richard,
I realize that this reply is probably too late to help, but I did remember to check the primary winch base width. It is 9 1/4 inches counting (radii) radiuses at the intersection of the horizontal and vertical surfaces. I either need larger winches or a smaller headsail as I approach 60.
