We have a 1982 Catalina 38 with a Martek two blade folding prop. As most of
you we too experience the prop walk when backing up to port. Coming out of
out slip, which is rather beamy, I  have found the best way to attack it is;
idle the engine and put the rudder a bit to starboard, lightly engage
reverse and then into neutral, this starts the boat in reverse and without
power to the prop makes it easier to steer, no prop walk. I might have to
go this a couple of times very lightly though. Then, walla, we are out of
the slip without the annoying prop walk. Now backing into the slip is a
whole other story. LOL We won't go there just now.

Best regards,

Larry Malmberg-President

Max Soto has just sent me 67 jpg files that I will be mounting on our
website as time permits (this will take a lot of organizing). There is
"real gold" in these files and we all need to thank Max for the
significant contribution to our knowledge base! Attached to this email
for example are the design plans with dimensions for the fuel tank.

Thanks again Max!

Subject: Prop Walk

I have found that if I hold the starboard stern line after putting it in
reverse, and as I start to move, give the line a slight tug. Then pulling it the
line. I have know problem with prop walk. She slides right out of the slip.
