[C38] Going to CA!

Hi, Max,
	There is a good sized West Marine right on PCH in Newport Beach south
of Minneys.  From Minneys, go down to PCH turn rught, then make a U
turn.  Orange coast College will be on the right just as you leave the
commercial district.  West Marine is about 1/2 block further on the left
side.

	I buy all my electronics on line these days, because WM has put most
places out of business in this immediate area.  You might try calling
Safe Navigation in Long Beach.  They have lots of contacts, and might be
able to help you find a good deal.

	I bought an Eagle 500C on line for about 350.  It is about a 5"
display, and uses Navionics charts up through their gold series.

	I interfaced mine with the WP 32 and it works OK, but I am having a
problem getting it to lock on to a course.  FIrst blush it turns away
from the course until the cross track error reaches 0.2nm, then it
swings to where it will converge with the correct course in about 2
miles. Other than that it works well, but the display is a bit course.
They have a newer model with finer resolution that you should look at,
unless you are in love with the big brands.  The 500c's worst weakness
is it drops off line at about 10v, so when I start the engine it shuts
off and I have to turn it on again.
