At the current time I have 3 Catalina 38s committed for the 2009 Oregon
offshore race all from Oregon. Is there any one from the Seattle area or
BC that would like to commit and join in on the fun??? If we get a
couple more boats we could have our own one design class.

Has anyone put in a dry shaft packing vs. the drip that the boat came
with?
We have a one inch shaft, recently replaced the packing but still have
to
adjust it all the time. There must be a better way. LOL Also, what's
the
typical life of a cutlass bearing? I know, it probably depends upon how
much you run the engine, we run ours a bit.
Best regards,
Larry Malmberg

We put on a PSS dripless packing gland and it's GREAT - never a drop of
water and never a complaint. We replaced our first one after about 5
years
of cruising, not because anything was wrong, but we just thought it
might be
time. The one we removed looked perfect after about 15K miles.

GFO Packing, has anyone tried that for their shaft packing? It's a bit
cheaper than a dripless shaft bearing, well a lot cheaper. I just
ordered
some and will give it a try and report back to you all. The ad claims
it's
almost dripless.
Best regards,
Larry Malmberg
