HelloPatrick, I just replaced my forestay. The measurement was 51 ft 3.5 
inches, as measured from centre of top swage to centre of bow toggle. I used 
the largest turnbuckle that would fit in my new hood 808 sl furler, for 
maximum adjustment.  The Catalina 38 association web site gives a measurment 
in a some what diferent manor; from the top swage to the swage stud. The 
part that threads into the adjusting turnbuckle.  Hope this helps
