I did receive his photo, so it is most likely a problem with your
provider or your mail setup.
Max did send it again, but if you are having issues such as this,
typically it is provider issues or filtering on your system.  If you are
using windows, and Outlook or Outlook express make sure you are set to
receive HTML mail.

I no longer remember the exact setting (I use Linux), but check the
preferences setup.

If that is good, call your network provider and ask them to check your
account settings.
