[C38] Jib Roller Furler

Hi Patrick,

I have an old Hood Sea Furl 900SL, it is a very simple and cheap unit, but
they have discontinued this model. I just bought for $1449.00 at Defender
Marine the new model for a friend of mine, the Hood Seafurl 808SL. I was the
one that installed it, so I took a good look at it. The main difference,
exposed and bigger drum, which allows for larger diameter line, two sets of
ball bearings instead of four, and a reinforced  feed extrusion attachment,
which was the weakest point on the 900 series. The head swivel also has two
ball bearings sets. A very nice upgrade is bolt instead of rivets for the
extrusions connection. This model comes in three different lenght. The
smallest one will fit headstay leghts of 52', so this will fit a C38. The
max wire is 3/8". After I compared both systems, and tested the new model, I
won't hesitate to install it on my boat. As a fact, I'm going to sell mine
here and by a 808SL. Of course, for  bluewater cruising, I'll probably go
for the high end and more expensive models from Hood, Pro Furl Harken,
Schaefer or Furlex. The 808SL is the cheapest (above CDI), but it works real
good!!! What I like about Hood is that if you need a part, just go to their
webpage, search for the part and buy it. no calls!
