[C38] winch bases

Dear C38 owners,

We have the standard winch, which is not self-tailing. Is there an
inexpensive, do-it-yourself kit to convert to self-tailing?

Richard,

I realize that this reply is probably too late to help, but I did remember
to check the primary winch base width. It is 9 1/4 inches counting (radii)
radiuses at the intersection of the horizontal and vertical surfaces. I
either need larger winches or a smaller headsail as I approach 60.

opportunity to get barrient st 36 winches from a friend, they are quiet
large and have a 10 1/8 base. how large is the mounting base where the
standard 3 sp lewmar 48 sit. am quiet sure will have to add a ss rub piece
on the starboard side as the lead will be further inboard and chaif on the
glass comming.
