[C38] Listserve Digest, Vol 3, Issue 98

We have a harken on fly bye. I don't have a halyard stop installed but did
on my 30. what we have found racing is that a lot of tension on the halyard
it is hard to furl and jams. We loosen the tension and it furls easy. We are
constantly changing the tension when racing so at the end of the day we just
unload the tension. I found this true also on the 30 before I put the
halyard stop on. I wont put the stop on the 38 since we use two jib halyards
and use both tracks in the foil for sail changes. Hope this helps.

Charles,

What model Profurl do you have?

I local riggor talked me into replacing my original
Profurl RC42? with a Furlex 200s. It constantly binds
up and finally broke when furled up in a thunderstorm
furling line pulled right out of the drum.

Thanks

Rob Cornelsen

Rob I just put a Furlex on our boat and it works
great. But here is an eye strap at the top of your
mast that holds the halyard down Lots of installers
leave this part off as they feel it is not needed. It
is and it keeps the halyard from jamming the unit
when furled. Harken makes a strap also I recommend you
put it on any system you choose if it doesn't have
one.
