[C38] Fuel tank

Joe,

Thanks for the reply.

My quarterberth is chamfered (dog-eared liked like a page in a book) on the inboard forward corner. This makes it impossible to place the tank in both the most forward and most inboard location. To get the tank all the way forward, you have to move the tank outboard about 6 inches. To get the tank all the way inboard, you have to move it aft about 6 inches. If I moved the 35" tank as far inboard as I could, it would hang over the raw water intake valve.

Do you have the chamfer in forward inboard corner of your quarterberth? Catalina made some nice refinements to their boats between 1980 and 1990.

I am planning to replace my non original 18 gallon fuel tank with the tank that Catalina designed for our boat. I have attached a file with the dimensions in past posts to the listserve. The dimensions are 35 5/8" x 18" x about 15" at the deepest. I had understood that the capacity was 35 gallons, but my rough calculations indicate a capacity of about 42 gallons. The Catalina installation drawing shows the tank being located with the inboard side inline with the vertical wall of the quarterberth. I don't see how it will fit into under the quarterberth in this spot with the engine cooling water intake where it is located. The tank would fit if it were moved outboard and moved forward in the boat some.

Would someone look at their fuel tank and measure the size of their tank (looking down) and note where it is located relative to the inboard wall of the quarterberth and the vertical wall at the forward end of the quarterberth?

Phil,
On Hull # 365, built in 1990 and commissioned in 1991 my tank is snug against the forward wall of the quarterberth. It is rather close to the inboard wall as well and there is really nothing else under that quarterberth. I do not trust our fuel guage and since we race all the time we put fuel in 2 gallons at a time so I have no clue as to our tank capacity. Joe Launie, Macavity
