[C38] Boom Failure (alden)

Glenn sorry to hear about your boom. I have used Lefile and they are
great(I broke some spreaders with my topping lift and they sent me some
new style ones) . I am interested in the failure though. What kind of
boom vang did you have? Could you send some pics of the failure? I still
have a rope boom vang and am wondering if you had a solid type that is
connected differently. I have found with the original block and tackle
type the weakest link is the rivets at the boom mount(I have tore it off
before on a bad jibe). I would rather have the rivets fail than the
boom. I now use a preventer line with snatch blocks since I race by
myself a lot.

Charles I spent about thirty years sailing on Erie. Put in Bay is about
the
best anchorage out there well protected. the North side of Kellys island
is
nice but if it blows from the north watch out.If you like amusement
parks
especially roller coasters try Cedar point on Sandusky
bay, they have one of the largest coasters in the world, can be seen
from
miles away. If yu get to Cleveland Edgewater Yacht my old Port of Call
is
and good stop over with friendly people ( at least it used to be) and
the
first couple of nights used to be free to other yacht club members. The
inner harbor is nice or was and the Rock and Roll hall of fame is right
there. Have a great trip.
