[C38] Steam Cleaner

The engine out is a perfect time to get to your steering gear and
rudder! It is also time to do any maintenance on your thru-hulls and to
paint the engine area (white paint recommended to show leaks). I had a
total engine overhaul done when I bought my boat and even crawled all
the way back to have a look. Unfortunately, I didn't know about the
propensity for the rudder shaft to leak at that time and did not install
a "boot." I also decided to ignore the fact that one of the four 1/2
inch stainless bolts holding the binnacle down was stripped, and this
really came back to bite me last summer! It is also time to take a
good, hard look at the wiring harnesses for the engine as well as
consolidating the many other wires strung through this area. And, I
would carefully inspect the plywood underlying the cockpit floor that
also stiffens the binnacle (I had to do this job last summer while
cruising and it was awful).
On the other hand, I did get two beer cans out that the previous owner
said rolled and banged in almost any sea!

I also:
* replaced the engine mounts and beefed up the stringers.
*removed, tested and cleaned the fuel tank.
*made the ammeter wiring change Tom T. has told all of us to do.

In closing I have to say that when I think of maintaining my boat... I
sometimes dream about taking the motor out just so I can get to those
unreachable spaces!
