[C38] Dock Lines

We formerly used 5/8 3 strand nylon but went to the 1/2 inch to get
more stretch. This works for us in Santa Barbara which is usually a very
quiet harbor with little or no surge. We are open to the southeast and
when a southeast storm comes in we double up on our lines. We have
double slips with a dock on one side and open water between the boats so
use 2 bow, 2 stern lines and a spring line. There is a concrete piling
between the slips at the ocean end for the second stern line. In quiet
weather, we usually leave that line off. With a storm coming we add
another spring line. Braid is pretty but 3 strand nylon seems to have
more stretch. Joe Launie/Macavity
