regarding polyglow, the previous owner of my boat had polyglow on her, so I
am more or less obliged to continue with it. Once it is on, there is
absolutely nothing that will remove it. Having said that, I am fairly happy
with the stuff as a third owner of an '82 who in not overly concerned with a
first rate appearance. It does take a bit of practice to apply properly
though. I definitely recommend the applicator pad, which can be used
indefinitely. If you are applying it for the first time, I recommend a very
aggressive acid wash to remove as much oxidation as possible. I used the
stuff the shrimp boats use to clean their hulls. I think it's crystalline
oxalic acid and works out to about 25 cents a gallon as a saturated aqueous
solution. This should be job one at haulout, as the acid can damage many
paints and coatings.
