[C38] One project down

Chuck, "investment" in your C38 is investment in retirement. Why doesn't my
wife agree? By the way, what kind if frig do you have? My Norcold
compressor burned out and I just finished replacing it with a like icebox
conversion unit.

Steve,
I built a platform out of stainless steel back in 2007 (see picture).
What you see is the boat rigged to transit the Erie Canal. I cruised
the Great Lakes over the past two summers. As most of us are aware,
this past summer was one of the worst regarding rain and cloud cover in
the past century. I was off grid for extended periods of time and never
ran out of juice! In fact, I rarely used the wind generator (don't like
the noise). My biggest draw is the fridge, but it is great to have ice
whenever you need it and not have to worry about the batteries!
By the way, building your own platform like mine is not all that
daunting! I had never welded stainless before this project and still am
not a pro, but it does do the job and remains within the "affordable"
limits I have imposed upon my sailing passion (my wife suggests that
saving for retirement might be a better investment compared to
"investing" it in the boat).
